SEEKING SACRED SPACE

PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL DE JUNKING

Recently, I have been thinking about space and how space feels differently in different places.  Questions arise like – how does space affect how we feel, what does space do, how much space do I need, how much do others need, when does space nourish or nurture or disempower, what is the nature of my relationship to space?  So many questions about something that is relative and unseen.

Space is the gap where energy flows, yet paradoxically  it is also energy. Space has a vibration – everyone can recall the differences between spaces that feel heavy and dense or those that feel airy or light.

Matter also vibrates on an energetic level.  How do the different vibrational energies in the spaces around us affect our own vibrational energy and thus how we feel and behave?

On a recent holiday to England, I compared the energy of the English countryside to the Australian country landscape.  The English energy felt softer, more rounded and flowing, older and more settled.  The Australian landscape also has an old and ancient energy but it is less tamed and on a grander and wider scale.  Man’s imprint on the Australian bush is much less visible and less controlled.  The energy of the English countryside is formed from man’s cultivation over centuries whereas in Australia, while the landscape is old, the energy is younger and freer, reflecting less cultivation.

I suggest there is a relationship between the landscape space and the culture of the people occupying it.  There is a flow of energy between the two and both the landscape and the people are affected and changed over time.

This has relevance for individuals.  How does your energy impact on the spaces surrounding you, particularly in your home?  Can you do anything to change the energy in the space around you so you feel better?  What might such a nourishing energy look like?

Everything in the Universe exists in polarities – for each and every force there is a shadow force (black/white, good/bad, happy/sad, dark/light) – and we all seek to gain balance between these polarities.  It is about balancing the energy in your environment with your own energy vibrations to create a space the nourishes and supports you.  For example, if you are a person that has a  lot of anger and you send out lots of angry energy vibrations, then you will benefit from an immediate environment that is cool and calm.  That is, the opposite energy from that you are emitting will bring you closer to balance.  This in turn will affect your mood and reduce your anger levels.  This is why modern prisons are not painted in red which increases anger but rather painted in blues and green which are more calming.

So become aware of the feelings you experience the most and look to put the opposite in your environment to balance you and bring you more into harmony.  So if you are feeling low, use bright and light colours to offset the dark and heavy feelings you are experiencing.

I mentioned above that space allows energy to flow.  I liken our homes to our circulatory system which is the body’s energy and blood flow, bringing nourishment to the cells and organs and removing toxins.  Our space around us allows for a similar concept on an energetic level.

Like having too much blood clotting factor or our arteries narrowing due to fatty deposits, our homes can become cluttered and the flow of nourishing energy in and toxins out becomes blocked and impeded.  This impacts on our bodies and we can become blocked in different areas of our lives.

Have a look at your house and see if there is any clutter, use the bagua to determine the part of your life that is affected and see what is happening there.   Try clearing the clutter and see what happens.  Clearing the clutter and freeing up the space will allow energy to flow through.

If we have physical clutter in our homes, we will have mental clutter in our minds. Our negative and limiting thoughts and beliefs are mental clutter.  We need to create space in our minds to allow new energy in and creativity to flow.  Meditation is the vehicle to create such space in our heads.  Once we allow gaps, new thoughts and ideas can move in.

Creating internal and external sacred space will lift your energy levels, create a connection between you and your immediate environment and allow you to start growing and transforming your life. This is the aim of Feng Shui.
